Cherry Vivas led former UAAP champion Far Eastern University to a pulsating five-set win over reigning NCAA five-time titlist San Sebastian College, 16-25, 30-28, 17-25, 25-21, 15-10, in the Shakey’s V-League Season 6 second conference at The Arena in San Juan City.

Vivas tallied 23 points behind 19 hits, three blocks and a service ace as FEU won its third straight game after losing to early quarterfinalist University of Santo Tomas.

It was also the Lady Tamaraws’ fourth overall win against one loss that put them in solo second behind the Tigresses’ unblemished 5-0 slate.

Vivas, who was tasked to fill-in the void left by veteran spiker Irish Morada, once again rose to the occasion to bail the Lady Tams out of trouble forcing a deciding set when the Lady Stags threatened to seal the game after the third frame for a 2-1 lead.

Vivas then teamed up with Shaira Gonzales and guest player Rachel Anne Daquis in the fifth as the Nestor Pamilar-mentored Lady Tams moved within a win of clinching the second quarterfinals berth.

Gonzales scored 18 points with 15 hits, two blocks and an ace while Daquis added 10 markers.

The loss dropped the Lady Stags of coach Roger Gorayeb in solo third (2-1) two wins better of their tormentors.

FEU needs to win its Tuesday’s 2 p.m. match against College of Saint Benilde to the Tigresses in the next round.

CSB, now being handled by national women’s team coach Thelma Barina Rojas, is hoping to delay FEU’s quarterfinal entry and give the Lady Blazers their second win after dropping their first two assignments.

It’s hard to play against FEU but if you’ll going to let that bother you then your game plan will be disrupted. All we need to do is to keep our focus in the game and defend well, luck is always there to help you," said Rojas after CSB’s three-set victory against reigning WNCAA queens Lyceum of the Philippines.

The second match will feature Ateneo-Oracare against Lyceum at 4 p.m. where the Lady Eagles are hoping to end their two-game slide while the Lady Pirates aim to enter the win column after three starts.
