MANILA -- Perennial UAAP cellar-dweller National University (NU) will have a new coach next season.

NU sports director Junel Baculi confirmed at the sidelines of Game Two of the Ateneo-UE title series last Sunday that they are currently looking for a replacement of coach Manny Dandan.

That’s the decision of management. We have to wait for Mr. Hans Sy’s decision as to who will replace coach Manny. We just bade coach Manny good luck to his future endeavors,” Baculi said.

Hans Sy, the president of SM Prime Holdings and chairman of the NU Board of Trustees, is currently on a business trip in China.

Under Dandan’s watch, NU made it to the Final Four in 2002. He was replaced by Rico Perez the following year.

Dandan regained his coaching job for NU in 2005. From then, the Bulldogs collected a measly total of 12 wins in 56 season games.

The best NU finish during his comeback was in 2007 when the Bulldogs placed sixth via a 6-8 card.

This season, the Bulldogs finished dead-last with a 3-11 slate.

The Philippine Star published a short list of Dandan’s possible successors. They include Coach E Basketball School founder Eric Altmirano, Letran coach Louie Alas, former PBA star Ronnie Magsanoc, and ex-Harbour Centre mentor Jorge Gallent.

Dandan could not reached for comment, as of posting time.
